Victim Witness Services

The key to a successful prosecution often lies with cooperation from the victims and witnesses. As a victim of a crime you may be called upon to play a significant role in making our American system of justice work. Without your participation, a satisfactory disposition of the case will, in most cases, be impossible.

The State’s Attorney’s office protects the rights of victims of crime and informs the victims of their rights during the criminal justice process. In a Circuit Court trial victims and witnesses will work with a victim/witness coordinator who will be available to answer questions, provide assistance, and guide you through the criminal justice system. It is our responsibility to ensure that the victims and witnesses are treated with dignity and respect.
